Has anyone decided not to pursue an MBA after running an ROI calc?

Maybe I’m missing something, but even with a median comp out of HBS (top choice, ~$200k total comp), the payback period seems long and IRR seems low.

Totally understand that each person’s situation is unique, but it seems to make sense for people 1) with lower comp, 2) MBA scholarship or 3) desperate need of career pivot.

Any insight is greatly appreciated 🫡

Does an MBA (US) make sense for me? Male, Indian, Age 32, Married working in tech consulting with 10 YOE. Base is $165 with steady increases and bonus is typically 15%. I eventually do want to cross the $300K threshold but I know stopping work for 2 years and getting and MBA probably won’t get me a $300K job right away. Becoming a manger in my current company/path will probably get me there in terms of TC. Also considering EMBA from a good school (Wharton Global, Duke, Kellogg, Booth).

Can I take out a full $200,000 in federal loans or is there a cap for mba/graduate programs?

Is a firm sponsored MBA worth it? I joined S& out of undergrad and will likely be promoted to MBA entry level (Senior Associate) in the summer.

Fortunate to have been admitted to Sloan ($), Kellogg ($$$), and Haas ($$$)! Engineer by background with pre-MBA experience in supply chain consulting and a post-MBA goal of tech PM. MIT has always been the dream so feeling conflicted with the scholarship offers and open to any advice! Also odds I can leverage Kellogg and Haas to negotiate with Sloan for more money?

Should I get a certificate in SQL/Tableau for $4k or an MBA for $60k? I already have student loans of $70k but I'm looking to gain some credentials that would help me excel into a bigger more reputable firm (I.e. Morgan Stanley or American Express). My company rn will not reimburse me for professional development so I'd have to either bite the bullet for the MBA or get the certification (eCornell) and satisfy some of the tech requirements for the job listings.

I have a 25K loan from my MBA. I paid off 100k whole, after graduation. 3 years ago, I moved my loan from federal to private ( SOFI) account. I recently lost my job. I have applied for unemployment, as the severance that I received will only cover for 2 months. Together my husband and I used to make less than 250k after tax. Now, with a loss of pay , we are going to make less. Do you think I will be eligible for Loan forgiveness?

Got into Booth, Kellogg, and Columbia, no $ unfortunately but excited regardless. Which one should I go to if I want to transition into Tech PM. Did my undergrad and worked in Chicago hence wanted to diversify and move to NY for the tech scene there but potentially move to SF post-MBA. I got into Kellogg ($) and rejected post interview from the other 4 M7s applied to. Given my post mba goal of entrepreneurship:
- should I turn down/try to defer Kellogg and reapply next year? (Will be able to demonstrate plenty of growth from now until next year)
- Or, take Kellogg and forget about the rest.

I now have a job offer from a Fortune 25 bank, which will provide brand value, exposure to finance domain (MBA Interest), a glimpse to how big organisations work and Managers with great experience to look up to and with higher pay (23 LPA)
