Do people expect you to reply when they send you “thank you!”? I always reply you’re welcome or no problem but sometimes I’m slightly worried if they are busy with tons of other important things and when they get a message notification and see my “you’re welcome” they will see that as a waste of their time… and even just liking their thank you would push a notification to them too. But simply ignoring a thank you just seems rude.
Pros and Cons of leveraging an offer from another Big 4 at your current firm? I am hoping to transfer offices, but I also want exposure to different types of engagements
Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks
Does anyone else in tax feel like the work load has increased significantly since TCJA - even almost 4 years later? I feel like corporate tax nowadays requires you to be workaholic as a basic job requirement, especially in PA.
What is salary range for experienced Tax MD from Big 4 at mid-tier firm like BDO? Anyone made the move? Regrets? Recommendations? advice for offer negotiations?
AEs: What do you appreciate about your core SE? What would you change about how you work together?
My step mom has been steeling money my dad gives my mom every month to help her and me pay her chemo. My dad asks my step mom for 4 years now to deposit money to my mom’s account. Step mom has only given my mom half of the money and stolen the rest. She stole total 25k+ for 4 years. Are there any legal actions I can take??
Any layoffs in tax tech ?
Is it strange that my recently promoted manager asked to hire a secretary to help handle his emails?/scheduling? I was under the impression that it was part of the job. We work in advisory at a large regional firm, feel like most M1’s in big four or mid market would laugh if someone asked that.
I think we need to expand utilization metrics into audit sabermetrics. Monthly reports showing: Average expletives per audit Review notes per workpaper Average cry time per day What others are good?
Does anyone else get demotivated after a review? I am a high performer and I know they have to pick something for me to improve on, but I sort of just wish they would let me "not improve" for awhile.
Are any of you the Loud eater on the audit team? I swear I feel like I am the only person who ever eats and it's always something loud and/or crunchy. Can we get a white noise machine or something?!
Why come back to big four after you left?
Everyone here talks like they hate their jobs....does anyone actually love what they do? Im just starting out and i feel like i wouldnt mind it
Well the first wave of corona layoffs have hit… start refreshing your books and resumes.
This is a long shot but wondering if anyone has experienced this. I just changed to H1B status last Oct and my bank mailed me recently after tax filing deadline (I have filed tax in time using H&R block) asking me to fill out W9 if I am a resident alien / another form if I am not. This has never happened in previous years. Does it mean I missed a form using H&R block or is it related to the status change…?
This covid surge in India is raising a dilemma for me. I’m settled here in the us and my parents live in India. It’s impossible for me to move down there and my parents are reluctant to move here....
Have an offer in hand for an AmLaw100 lockstep. Corporate / M&A mid level associate. Didn’t use a recruiter (attorney referral from inside firm). Mostly satisfied with the offer. Procedurally how should I go about negotiating things like signing bonus, full bonus vs pro rated bonus / Covid bonus eligibility? Obviously this would normally be done recruiter to recruiter. Do I contact the internal recruiter or one of the head partners I interviewed with? Email vs call?
McK 🐠 in NA: if you are pre-mba and get firm approval for mba spons, do firms offer any support/discount on prep $ (ie courses) and time off to study for GMAT?
For anyone who’s started at a company fully remote (Covid or otherwise)… when ramping into your new role, what did you do to feel more connected to your team/sales dept? I’m finding that I have questions that I don’t know how or whom to ask, I don’t know who anyone is and my manager can be MIA. This is my first fully remote role and it’s thrown me for a bit of a loop
After speaking with my RP about promotion to manager and all the brown nosing I need to do to get my name out there...starting to question if I even want it. Is it worth it?
Is there an easy way to switch XLOOKUPS to INDEX MATCH? Have a large file with bunch of formulas that don't work on all client machines (different excel versions).
LEK Consulting & Oliver Wyman folks: be honest, how difficult is the case interview going to be? I'm nervous about even applying because I haven't cased in years. And it's tough to find time/energy for that kind of prep right now.
Am I supposed to completely love and trust my nanny? Or is hiring like a nanny like selecting a project, where you just have to accept the trade-offs? (I’m a FTM preparing to go back to work in a month.)
Do you keep your automatic replies internal only, or do you use for external (aka client) emails, as well? I’ve gone both ways but have noticed increasing trend to keep internal only. I have a classic situation coming up where my project was delayed, so it is now overlapping with vacation. I am very tempted to go 100% off email (colleagues/clients have my cell) but wondering if this will reflect poorly on me and the firm.
Any recommendations for CFP Programs? So many options! Also, has anyone taken Series 50, I’m using STC and wondered how the exam is. Thanks!
We live in NJ, and the day care here are opening on the 15th. Since my wife and I are working we are debating to send my 18mth old son. Is it safe or is it too early to start? Thanks
Advised a client with a new Back to Office Op Model that has a separate year end cohort/comp review for people in the office greater than X days a year. Anyone else working on similar projects?
This is an awkward question to ask but one I’ve struggled with all my life. What are your views on people who are half black, and what’s your willingness to accept them into black spaces, professional/social groups? Does it matter whether the other half is white (mine is not)? With both of my halves I’ve felt that I’ve never been fully accepted into those communities/parts of my family, and I feel like I’ll never belong anywhere. Wondering how much of this is me projecting vs others’ views.
