You guys. I really struggle with cutting my own time. I know everyone says not to do it. But I get self-conscious and I also feel bad because sometimes I’m really good at concentrating and other times I check my phone, stare at the wall, lose my train of thought, get an interrupting email, etc. How do y’all handle recording your time when you know you were distracted for part of it?
How do you ask for a raise? And I do mean quite literally what words do you say. I have a mid year review coming up and I want to ask. Just finished my first year, started at a very low salary (65k) for defense litigation associate and no raise yet. I am in a state where wages are lower than the big cities but I still think this is too low given partners make 250k-500k/year. Thanks.
The new legal keyboard. I have one and love it. Anyone else have one? If you haven’t heard of it, here’s more info:
Does anyone have experience using Divvy cards for business expenses when traveling? My company just started using them and will be using them for the first time at a conference coming up.
Anyone who does/has done complex construction litigation here?
I’ve heard that it’s a great practice area with some of the nicest clients that are around.
First year at AM100 firm. Was told we get a percentage of what we bring in but the partner gets an origination credit of 50%. Does that mean he is getting 50% of all billables, regardless if I bring it in?
There is a partner at my firm who literally makes it seem like it is beneath him to even have to talk to you while giving you an assignment. Like I apologize that my existence is so taxing for you but thanks for the work. It’s not even like we have personal issues, he just completely lacks the ability not to make you feel like your presence is beneath him.
Office design ideas/resources? We are returning back to the office soon and I’ll be moving into a new, much bigger office (with a window!) My firm has essentially given me a carte blanche to furnish my new space. I’ve already ordered a sit/stand desk, what other must-haves or nice-to-haves should I look into?
I recently started a job as an outbound, enterprise BDR.
I have no previous experience with sales, but I did really well at first. In my first two months I was at the top of my sales team, and one of the top performers in the national sales org for dials/arr.
I hit a block, and now I can't seem to get passes at all. My effort hasn't changed. But I can't get meetings scheduled.
Has anyone experienced hitting a block like this? How do you overcome it?
Ha, in reference to the earlier post.
6.5 years out. When attempting to lateral, do I still need to put my GPA on my resume. Top 25 school but not stellar grades.
Do you feel if you switch sales industries that it can be a bad look on your resume for the future? Contemplating a few roles that aren’t in the line of what I’ve done. TIA!
Question: how long after a C&D reply do wait for OC to reply before you consider the matter closed. Sent a reply and OC went radio silent for over a month.
Which websites or magazines reccomend with articles or topics related to Human resources?
Anyone dealt with covid after being fully vaccinated? I have had both doses and now have covid. I feel terrible, have a high fever, and cough that makes it hard to sleep. Tips on balancing work? Corporate associate with two closings this week.
I am hearing a recurring theme in my exits, and I have had this experience myself. Millennial employees (20-30s) including myself, feel pushed into "technical" roles on teams even though we have never expressed this interest or any qualifications for them.
A consultant in Financial Services who found himself being the platform expert even though this was not his passion, not something he studied etc. My own experience was pushed to be the hris expert on the OD team. Anyone else? Is this bias?
How many of you have thought of a transfer to the US to a low-tax state?
My husband and I are fully remote tech consultants, and we are paying a ridiculous percentage of our salaries to taxes and a GTA mortgage. If we were to sell our house, we could pay debts and give a big down-payment in TX, Florida, or New Hampshire (maybe not downtown Autin or Miami, but you know where I am going)
We are worried about more change 🙄. So, I don't know if we don't do it because we are cautious or afraid. Help
A VC with our competitor in their portfolio wants to have an intro chat with our startup. Is this a red flag?
Hi any openings for etl tester?
Creed, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Deadpool 2, and detective pikachu are all fantastic, but would it kill ya to update the movie selection here and there?
I’m seeing a lot of in-house counsel positions at Citibank on their website. Any intel on culture, hours, etc?
How do negotiate comp during an interview ? I always get low balled, they suggest for the lowest end of range. How do you avoid that ? Thanks
It’s amazing that we still need to demonstrate what harassment looks like. *sigh* Great spots nonetheless. And there's David Schwimmer. http://creativity-online.com/work/ad-council-the-boss/53649
I dont need a data scientist. I need someone with more technical skills than a traditional business analyst but not necessarily the full data science suite.
What would you call that role?
Gartner calls it Citizen Data Scientist and I think thats stupid.
Beyond utilization and training, what other metrics are important at YE? Five got a slide on projects and one on initiatives. Am I missing anything?
Anybody else have any good alts to Zoom?
I encourage those who are simultaneously frustrated by wealth inequality and increased deficits to read up on ‘cantillon effect’. It is increasingly important in the context of the risks emerging from imbalances between fiscal and monetary policies that is seemingly coming to a head in today’s environment.
Happy to discuss this topic further in the thread if anyone is interested.
I hear the best way to negotiate your compensation is to go get an offer letter with a similar company and role. If/when I do this, is it customary for my hiring manager to ask to see the offer letter itself? Or will be providing her the salary info be sufficient in itself?
Anyone from PwC AC MC-HIA willing to chat?
How is a due diligence / research role (e.g., Insight Partners DGS) viewed at buy-side firms? Working alongside investors and doing everything besides the deal financials.
Would I be able to take an associate role in this capacity and make the move to an investing role later since a lot of the work is the same?
We recently expanded to 9 people. Trying to decide when to give pay raises… everyone in January or rolling through out the year on hiring anniversaries?
Traveling next month and have to be away from my 1-year-old son for the first time (3 nights), need some moral support/pep talk from other moms.
What stocks are you following?
Personally a few I’m following:
-VERY: like Beyond but beans not soy, taste better, order wait time or 7 months, and not followed much
-MindMed: risky but for sure think psychedelics will be used at some point in next 5 or so years...Pathways IPO could be better though. Even if these aren’t the right ones, some of them will pay off hugely
-FSLR: solar panels are the future
My parents are doing well with no health issues we know off. Is it required to do a health checkup ?
