Have been going out with a colleague (we're both associates) for about a month; wondering whether to disclose...
My husband and I are hoping to have a child soon, but I don't want to get off track at work. I'd love to know how others have handled the transition to motherhood while competing to make partner.
Any recommendations for online diversity and inclusion training program? With our without a certificate attached.
Where is the best place to see sample briefs? I’m looking for a guide to show a defendant met the minimum contacts test for jurisdiction
Do titles in Law firms (practice head, executive committee, managing partner etc) mean more pay for the extra responsibilities, or not necessarily?
Struggling with this whole work life balance thing. Is it possible to have a semblance of a life/hobbies? If so, how? Most of my socializing is honestly in the microcosm of the firm (drink nights etc)
I just found out that my new firm reads all emails sent and received. Does that creep anyone else out?
Can I ask my senior associate if I’m doing an okay job? For context, we’re on several matters together and I want to correct any mistakes WHILE we’re working together, not ask about them after.
Recieved an offer to work in-house in a big (Canadian) market. Thoughts on starting out a career in law in-house? How difficult is the transition from in-house back to private practice? Any advice?
If there were no practical obstacles whatsoever, what area(s) of law OTHER than your current practice area would you want to explore, and why? I’ve been so specialized for so long I’m not even sure how to answer this question for myself. Once upon a time I was somewhat interested in tax but I’m worried that’s where fun goes to die. I kinda dig admin law, although that’s cheating a bit because I work with a federal agency.
I hate it when you go out and the waiter asks "sparkling or still" and then before you can get a consensus some asshole just decides for the whole goddamn table. I like my Perrier!
Dealing with baglog What are some strategies for dealing with backlog? While working from home I've had a propensity to procrastinate and now have gotten behind on several files. I know I need to grind to turn them around before the clients asks for an update, but that's easier said than done during the day with conference calls, emails, and new "urgent" work that doesn't stop.
The California law school deans are asking that the new bar exam score (1390 instead of 1440) be applied retroactively at least to Feb 2020 (which they should) but are also asking to go back to July 2017. As someone who failed July 2017 with a 1439 and passed Feb 2018, I can’t help but feel so frustrated with the State Bar. Even if they do it, my swearing in date will still be June 2018 instead of Dec 2017, I still lost 6 months of my career even if retroactively I passed the first time.
Is there anyone who is a med mal attorney in the New York area? My niece went to the hospital complaining of abdominal pains, the hospital sent her home and said she had food poisoning. The pain persisted, she we to another hospital where they did MRI and found two large ovarian cysts. She had emergency surgery same day. Does she has a potential claim?
Productive in the AM and afternoon but 8PM comes around and my productivity completely drops off. I would almost rather wake up at 4AM if that could mean I could go to bed at 9PM. Anyone tried this?
Fashion question: are monk straps out of style at this point? I've seen bankers wear them but very few attorneys
My senior has a very "my staff works hard so that I don't have to" attitude and I'm kinda sick of it.
How bad is the job market out there relative to pre-covid? I’m hearing horror stories from a small sample size
Unpopular opinion: consulting is not any more challenging nor does it generate more experience than working in a demanding/high-profile role at a large company or startup. As someone who’s been in all three, I don’t see how people can argue consulting YOE > operating YOE. In fact, I could easily argue the opposite. What do y’all think (I’m expecting serious hate lol)
How easy / hard is it to do a secondment at RSM? Do you have options on where to go? What is the process like?
Hey everyone. Just want to share some exciting news before the holiday. Fishbowl had the most professionals sign up in the month of June than any previous month, growing new professionals over 30% MoM! A key reason for this is because the communities you lead provide an engaging experience that give people meaning & connection. Thanks for all that you do, and for being on this journey with us! Stay safe this 4rth.
Checked in at Ritz at 10.45 pm, room had some loud background noise or echo. Called front desk to report and they sent an engineer. Engineer came and said this noise is too loud let me tell (cont)
How is the Chicago office in terms of culture, work/life balance, pay, and client roster? Currently at a competitor and looking around. Thanks!
Anyone down to do a meetup in Dubai next week? I’m a female consultant from 🇨🇦 and hoping to one day move back to GCC. Wanted to learn about culture and work life here.
What happened after the 60 grace period for the h-1b? Do I lose the visa completely? I have a company that wants to sponsor me and they are waiting for an approval from HR. My I-94 expires in 2021
India’s proposal to allow IP concessions to manufacture covid treatments was denied by US and EU big pharma, what do you think of this?
Are people in industry getting raises this year? I feel like people in big 4 audit are getting fucked because our business isn’t getting impacted nearly as severely as consulting/advisory, yet we still have to take on layoffs and no raises to compensate for those service lines. Are other companies also not giving raises?
Guy in front of me reclined seat, can barely even put tray table down, let alone use a laptop. Can I ask the flight attendant to be reseated? Why do people do this.
Any MBB 🐟 who's not from an ivy league / doesn't have a masters degree? Willing to share how you got an offer? Thanks!
If eligible to concurrently file I-140 and I-485, is there any benefit to apply for I-140 premium processing out of pocket? If yes, can you please describe what the benefits would be?
