OP - I moved to Cali for $30K more than what I could have made in Dallas. Initially I felt like I did a mistake but within 3 years I changed two jobs and started making twice as much. Two years fast forward, I made Partner and make 5 times as much. I don’t think I would had such accelerated growth if I lived in Dallas. So you have to take future opportunities into consideration as well before making your decision.
P1 and SC1 spot on. When i moved to NYC, my otherwise identical career went into overdrive in many ways, the big market areas simply give you more social engineering, bigger opportunities, and overall can put your career on a rocket ship in so many intangible ways.
Houston. Additional bonus, Houston has lower levels of human feces on the sidewalk.

I'd think Houston

Sure, but discretionary costs are also significantly higher (e.g., car insurance, utilities, food). So "gets you further" would be Houston. In addition to the "gets you further" today discussion, you'd, at best, be in the same savings position. So your wealth would build equally, but your purchasing power would be higher in Texas due to lower prices. I'd argue that makes your QoL higher too.
Definitely Houston but you'd have to live in Houston which for me wouldn't be worth it
Ah yes - Houston = armpit of Texas
Houston.
Houston. No doubt lol
Plus, we got no state tax
I feel like I can’t even wipe my ass for under $30 in SF
Dude was working 80 hour weeks as a janitor. He deserves it more than many IMO
Houston and it’s not even close
See the thread I got into with A1, also Partner1’s thread
San Francisco if you can rent a room to someone on section 8. Think outside the box 🤷🏾
200k McNuggets would probably get you further in TX than $300k in SF

Just searched, it's 5600 vs 6900 bi-weekly, so 1300*2=2600 difference per month, will rent be that much different?
The house I own in Houston ($550K, ~$3K/mo mortgage) would be totally out of reach in SF - at least $4M-$5M (and a mortgage I could never afford). So yeah, if having a nice home (and plenty of space for pets and/or kids) is important, the difference is huge.
Sf
Texas
Houston for sure
Houston
I would go to SF with 300k (Personal preference, I guess). Love the Cali/Bay Area weather, good scene is good and more opportunities to help you raise your earnings in future with many Tech giants around.
Don’t forget you need a car in Houston and not in sf
Having lived in both cities, your dollars will go further in Houston. But to P1’s point, you will see tremendous career growth in SF due to the Bay Area culture. A huge generalization and anecdotal: on average, folks in HTX settle down earlier and prioritize family more than folks in the Bay Area, which yields a different environment for progression and future career and salary potential. Personally I had to move to SF because I craved that drive and motivation to grow in my career (2 YoE) that I didn’t see among my peers in HTX

Its funny how people say the same thing about the Bay (relaxed environment with little drive) in NYC. It's all relative.
What role? Rare to find $200K jobs in Texas if youre currently a manager.

If you're okay not living in the prime parts of SF, and living in the suburbs of the bay area, I'd rather pocket the difference and invest it.
