2nd year Public Defender in NYC making $82k. Am I crazy for staying? I love my clients and I believe in the mission, but I’m literally living paycheck to paycheck in one of the most expensive cities in the world. My friends from law school are all buying condos. I don't want to sell out to a firm, but the financial stress is starting to outweigh the moral satisfaction. Is there a sweet spot for public interest work?

You can leverage your experience to get a job at a law firm, and then return to public interest after you’re financially more comfortable. Just be sure to keep your connections to public interest, via pro bono, donations, board appointments and the like.

You could also look at law school clinic teaching.

Hi, I am a PhD student and I have recently started preparing for consulting. I have gone through basics of framework and have watched few YouTube videos. I am at the point where I am seeing diminishing returns by studying more books. Anyone willing to help or are there people in the same boat? Would love to connect with potential study/case buddies! TIA!

I tried asking this in my own bowl with no responses, so seeing if other consultants have run into this situation. I’m on parental leave, I got an offer for another firm, great opportunity and pay. How does one go about a resignation mid-leave when you would start the new job before the leave ends? Two weeks notice or just say I am not returning effective the day of the new job? Any things to consider besides potentially repaying the employer healthcare premium?
