9 YOE in audit in 3 countries… but no US CPA (I have ACCA). What are the chances of landing a big 4 audit stint in the US (Manager above)? I’m happy to take Senior if it pays well but doubt that.

…or possibilities for other opportunities?

You should check into accounting advisory! My team has hired several people from outside the US and mostly kept their level. We do IFRS to GAAP conversions and your skills could be used there. Also lots of other complex accounting I’m sure you’ve had time working on. Pay is pretty good. S1 makes 107-118k, M1 is about 145-157, and SM is 180+.

Thanks! This sounds like an area I’d actually want to be in. I’m currently with Deloitte in an internal role in the US (thus no CPA required) but I’m missing technical work… but not the audit hours. I guess I’ll just have to get through the CPA…

I have ACA and work in the states, generally you may be able to get into audit at your level if you can transfer within your firm internationally, but there would be zero path to promotion in audit without CPA. Also if you don’t have public company experience they might downgrade you or silo you into private cos only. Pay is a huge improvement but cost of living is high. PwC1’s suggestion is a solid one. Good luck!

Deloitte downgrades if you don’t have a CPA… this is insightful. Thanks very much, I might end up taking the US CPA.

Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.

Any advice on things to expect (or not expect)?
