I agree. Real world stats would suggest 10 shops in 5 years for any potential employee is not a confident builder, but considering how many more freelancers are part of the employment pool today, are those numbers really out of line? 10 years ago that’s a red flag. Today, if the work matches the job, or even on a project by project basis, is that out of line? My son is32 and own a growing design company , but he started out working for architectural firms with the mindset that he would commit for a year then move on and up, and his strategy was on point. First job out of college was @ 25K. A year later he switched companies at 55K, a year later 70K. I would never condone the one and done strategy but it worked. Not only is the job market changing, the work force is changing simultaneously. The promise of working for one company your entire career died in the 70s. Workers are finally getting more comfortable managing their careers; not because they want to, because they have to. Freelancers, or should I say independents are taking a stand and making a statement. With a fragile and unpredictable job market in just about every industry, do you really blame them? People are finally reacting to the marketplace instead of succumbing to the status quo. Let’s not judge them, let’s applauding them.
