A few months ago I posted my resume here and a couple people said it was too long, 4 pages. I took a step back and was about to change it. Reading it I realized, those four pages truly captured ME and my experience.

Not even 2 weeks after I decided to trust myself, I was offered a Director position in the field I love!

I share that to say, take time to learn yourself. So you know when to take the advice of others or when to TRUST YOU!

I am happy for you, but for a bowl directed towards helping students succeed, 99% of the time your resume should be one page.

You are battling against automated resume reviews that will cut people immediately for things like that.

I’m not a recruiter, and that may or may not be the case, but it would be cut as soon as it hit my desk and is a consistent detractor.

Congratulations! Love this for you! But here’s something to consider. There are times, many times in fact, where a candidate is hired in spite of their resume not because of their resume. I’m willing to bet you could have also gotten hired with 1-2 pages instead of 4.

And while you may love your 4 page resume, telling other people to do the same is giving them advice that may ultimately negatively impact them. So yes, you should absolutely know yourself and trust in yourself. But it’s also important to fully understand the risk involved. If someone knows that a 4 page resume is very likely to negatively impact their chances but still wants to do it, hey live your life! But one anecdotal experience where it ended up fine isn’t proof that it’s a good idea.

When you make an ill advised decision and then say trust yourself, it sounds like you’re saying it was a good decision.

If I said “People always say that going to an interview drunk is a bad idea, but I thought about it and I feel the most like my authentic self when I’m tipsy! So I had 2 glasses of wine before my interview and got the job! You just gotta know when to take the advice of other people and when to trust yourself!” it would sound like I was encouraging people to drink before their interviews.

Thank you for the congrats! And I'm fine with that.

That's awesome - congrats! It's definitely important for people here to realize that feedback isn't always 100% accurate, and there's something to be said for intuition.

Wow that is amazing. I know many recruiters and managers who will not even look at a resume that is over one page. But you are right, you know you best. Congratulations on your offer. Sounds like a really great opportunity.

Thats awesome! Congratulations on your new job. It great to know when to ask for help but also what advice you should take and what you should leave at the waist side.

Does anyone work or run a satellite office? I’m in a role where our satellite office has no designated leadership that sits regularly with HQ decisions makers. It’s me and an ECD expected to run the day to day with no visibility into the network. We routinely get agency decisions rolling down to us without guidance on how to implement. I’ve never worked in a satellite office before, what are typical leadership structures and processes for a satellite to be successful?
