McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

Looking for some book recommendations :)
Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

Some groups or verticals will be hiring, others will be laying off. Each group is going, to an extent, be run like its own little business and flex to their current position in the market to meet demand
Because a new undergrad is cheaper than one that's been working for a few years
Accenture and IBM overhire. They just want people they can ship out to clients no matter what
OP you're fine. Can't be laid off due to bench time in the first year.
Also you will need to have done really really terribly to be let go cause of performance...
We want to cut dead wood.... need to plant thought still 🌱
I have been with company for 10 months and been on bench for 3 consecutive weeks. But they are still asking for referrals. People say that being on the bench puts you at risk of layoff?
I don't think it's necessarily a lay off... just letting go the people who have consistently not been performing
Only true for experienced hires PWC. They are still aggressively hiring generalists from undergrad and MBA
@P2 - ok, not my most helpful post!
*though
@A2 deep... very deep...
^get ready
It depends very much as to why you're on the bench. If it's because your a poor performer and have been rolled of engagements - then yes, polish the resume. If it's because of market softening then be less concerned but do look for how to get staffed. The key is to be proactive.... don't just think your next engagement will come find you!
We constantly hire. This has always been the case. We aren't laying people off due to demand. We are being much more stringent on the up or elsewhere model. Peeps are getting let go due to performance.
A3 - that's incorrect. People are getting let go due to been h time in first year.
One other clarification. Being counseled out of your group, or out of the company due to individual performance isn't the same as a layoff.
What is h time
*bench time.
