Fidelity Investments I joined FIL on 08th August 2022 and hence was eligible for appraisal but even after a good feedback, I was told that there is no increment in salary as well as bonus because of "Too Soon To Decide" rating. Tbh...you allude to your self worth being defined by your job. I recommend therapy because this sounds like a traumatic experience and to also rework how you see and value your worth. Lastly, i would reflect on whether there were any signs or indicators of a potential layoff. At the end of the day recognize that an employee is a business to business contract. Also reflect on the false marketing by companies that employees are family or the manipulative tactic of saying employees must be loyal to a company but not the opposite. Sorry this happened and good luck on your journey.
Any company that says “we’re a family” I’d run away from. That’s a signal that you’re going to be expected to put work above anything else in your life, but will never have that reciprocated by your leadership. Agree with the original response though: despite building a team from scratch and feeling a lot of pride in your work, defining yourself by your job is not a great idea.
Cars still scratch easy.
I started my career in the very early 2000s when layoffs were common. I saw then that favorites were kept and the ones who were hardest working and committed let go. I learned that companies were two faced expecting you to go hard for them while not thinking twice about you when it counts. Grieve the job loss then use it to fuel your search. And never go out if your way for anyone except when it counts. Pick and choose who you invest in. Invest in yourself first and a job last.
