Comparison is the thief of all joy. Just work hard.
Totally disagree EY2. The comparison gives me data about what’s expected and how my peers perform. By comparing myself to the population I know where I’m weak and strong.
Now...comparing myself to individuals, at least for me, is when the insecurities start to pile up.
I don’t know why consultants are so obsessed with age. Everyone gets there with their own pace. Person who made M at 26 isn’t necessarily happier than who made it at 46. Such obsession with age leads to age discrimination and all sorts of rat race problems in consulting. I stayed at M level for almost a decade to keep serving my personal priorities. When I made SM, I was making close to what MD makes so it all turned out better for me. And yes I was old M, but I can outrun (literally) most BTAs

Making Manager in Deloiitte consulting is more difficult than in Advisory or making Manager at one of the other big 4. We have an extra level so at MINIMUM it’s an extra 1-2 years more assuming fresh out of college:
BA 1-2 years
C 2-3 years
SC 2-4 years
I’m not sure what the requirement for Manager is at Accenture, but I believe they have a 5 year requirement (which is equal to the Advisory practices).
