I would say Chris Beresford-Hill is doing a fine job for Chiat NY on LinkedIn.
i mean, all he’s doing is posting their projects. feels incredibly promotional rather than giving me anything of value i couldn’t get from looking at a portfolio.
i’d love to know how he thinks, where he sees chiat going in the future, what creative he loves, or where how he thinks we can better our industry.
it’s basic advertising: make me love why you’re doing this, not what you’re doing. we’re a service, like anything else we sell.
droga for pr, mother for quirky side projects, and wieden for its “chill” non-desperate/sweatshop vibe despite its consistently great work + the “happy birthday mike pence” video they did for 🏳️🌈 folks
I loved Mother’s intern recruitment video last year!

Did Sterling Cooper do self-promotion? Does Wieden? Shouldn’t our calling card be the work that’s already out there being seen by millions?
They’re the ones responsible for commoditizing it by all the mergers and acquisitions
Create a micro agency within your agency to market and advertise your agency or do something about it..
Your work is your calling card is a great principle the only problem you can’t cash it at the bank
From my work experience when we do amazing work for our clients they go hush hush about it they don’t want anyone to know who was behind their Ads
Therefore it is our absolute duty for our own families and the families of the people who work for us to go out there and advertise our own agency through what we find suitable
I’d call it idiotic, if I hadn’t done it so much myself.
also, it was awhile ago but Critical Mass in Calgary did a “move to canada, eh?” recruiting campaign for Americans during the early days of Trump
Wolf Olin’s back in the day
How about advertising? 😀
Preacher, Johannes Leonardo, David, Gut, &Walsh... the hot, new ones.
These agencies treat themselves and their own brand as they would their most important client, and I couldn’t love it more.
