No jokes, some managers prioritise diversity of teams rather than quality.
Lol sarcasm I believe.
I believe that diversity hiring is great but the bar does get lowered just to fill a quota. I’m a HM myself and when my team was actively hiring, recruiters were forcing us to take diversity hires because it was an inclined loop but the HM on the interview passed on the candidate. I’ve seen some fellow HMs having the same issue and ending up putting all the candidates on focus after 6 months.

I’ve seen a lowering of the bar anytime we hire based o a demographic - black, white, female, indigenous, it doesn’t matter.
If you prioritize race, gender, sexual orientation criteria over candidate quality, you lower the bar.
I’ve had the same experience as Amazon 4. The bar is massively lowered for women (in male-dominated areas) and pocs. As a senior manager, I can also attest that promo docs do not get anywhere near the same resistance from L8s+.
We aren’t doing well … hiring for diversity is not the same as inclusion
I think we are making progress but we are far from ideal. How do we attract qualified diverse talent? The company needs to tap into some specific candidate pools or create diverse talent. I think getting diverse talent for entry level roles and investing into their training and support to will yield results later when this talent develops. For the senior roles who started their careers 15+ years ago (maybe even 10+) the playing field was not equal, so there are gaps now.

I got to see that it all depends on the building or department you are. I had a really great experience but my current experience is draining me and I just don’t understand how we can be so closed minded on my current organization. All L7s are white males. L6s are all white males with the exception of 1 female and 1 person of color. I just don’t see any opportunities here but I don’t wanna leave Amazon.
Stop hiring pwc to do your diversity and inclusion work, first of all. It's like hiring your landscaper to do your banking.
