Imo chase has better customer service, and a lot of places don’t accept Amex abroad
Comparing it to cable company customer service. 😆
I am fine with an Amex Gold + Chase Freedom flex + Chase Freedom Unlimited. I was surprised when booking hotel thru Amex Travel that they book it thru Expedia, and it’s not much different if you book with Platinum. I don’t see the need for Platinum unless you are in a Delta hub traveling all the time using delta or centurion lounge and really need a guaranteed 4pm late checkout (which reserve doesn’t have over platinum). Haven’t used Reserve either. Most of my spend is on food (groceries & restaurants) so I use Gold for that.
Same dilemma right now. Not due to bad customer service though but thinking of getting something different.

What’s the overall card strategy? Need a couple pf cards to cover travel, dining, grocery, gas, shopping and other expenses. Build your cards based on which maximizes overall earning, redemption & benefits
Rising Star
Amex Plat is worth it for Y1 with the new point bonus.
However, concierge isn’t what it used to be, some places don’t take AmEx, perks require you to be proactive (actively utilizing X digital service, spending $X credit bi-annually, etc), plus it really is a travel focused card so if you don’t make use of the lounge benefits the value of the card depreciates greatly.
I ended up getting it today. Amex I mean. Sigh. They gave me a 150k points bonus though!!!
If you travel less than 4 times a year, BoA cash rewards with 100k invested in Merrill Edge. Otherwise, I'd go platinum for the 10x on flights

A lot of people in this credit card group on FB mention that CSP is the way to go because you get more points through the welcome bonus. Since that's gone, for CSR you can always product change to CSP for a cheaper yearly fee.
Amex platinum is the one travel card that people prize with all the lounges and credits that is included with the annual fee (pays for itself if you actually use it.) And Amex has incredible service. I have Amex blue cash preferred mainly for groceries.
Venture X is another card people rave about.

I like the centurion lounge access
