Hi - non brand / creative type here. What’s the big deal or issue with this? This appeals to me as a consumer in that I’d rather see corporate social responsibility as a means to create brand loyalty instead of increased product differentiation or clever marketing logos / whacky characters. I’d rather 10 million dollars be spent donating to a good cause that resonates with my values rather than a clever ad campaign. All else equal, hearing things like this increase my brand loyalty where now I may think twice at the store about the next bag of chips I buy. While I normally wouldn’t care, just grab whatever for the party, I now may self select into the frito lay chips.
Is it that this comes across as pretentious? I don’t get it.
I’m with ya A1, I hear ya. I agree, they should not do that. But I still think it’s net positive so it rolls off my shoulder I guess is what I’m saying.
“It’s not about brands...”, but it is about rethinking frivolous consumption (I’m looking at you Frito-Lay).
This whole situation should be a wake up call that so many people’s livelihoods depend on frivolous (wasteful?) overconsumption in a world where many people don’t have enough and where finite resources are being put towards frivolous ends.
Similarly as someone not in the industry, how does the agency/in-house angle apply to this ad?
