A&P’s M&A group is full of nice people but the deal flow isn’t great and a lot of people leave because of it. The firm tends to nickel and dime on bonuses and there are rumors of financial problems. I’m a 4th year and will leave soon. Hours are busy and I want to go in-house soon — A&P is not the best place to launch from there.
Best friend and work wife life A&P to do M&A at Cooley. She’s been there two years (now a 4th year). She is very busy (works holidays and bills almost 2200 hours a year which is not unusual for the group). The management / partners are apparently awful as the culture of the group is “changing” for the worse. There’s a high turnover rate and low morale at the associate level...they also nickel and dime but don’t have the financial issues to justify that.
Yeah, my experience with Cooley is that it’s basically a sweatshop that has some pretty significant issues with lack of partner oversight on matters leading to significant issues with work product, deliverable timing, etc.
I believe these issues are systemic there, does not matter what office you work at because you’ll be cross staffed on the reg.
