It’s been 2 months since I quit work. It took that long to feel “normal” again. My friends have been saying I seem happier. I picked up some old hobbies again and started exercising! There are days when lack of productivity makes me anxious. A part of me then wishes I could have been like this while still working in PA. Maybe if I’d tried harder, I could have had a decent work like balance?
Still, I am starting to believe that quitting was the best decision for me. 💕

My English classes are going to present Google Slides for a research project culmination. I was wondering what other middle school teachers do to keep the rest of the students focused on the speakers. Do you have students evaluate other presentations? Take notes? Other?

I just finished year 6 and I start my first grad course towards a masters on July 8th. Has anyone here ever gotten bewildered taking grad courses? Like you’re afraid you won’t do well or understand?

Do you do most of your novel reading in class or assign it for homework? Why?

I love doing found poetry in a few of my units, and the kids really get into it. We do the type where you get cut up words and arrange them into a poem. I can't do it with my general sophomores, though, because it would be IMPOSSIBLE to cut up enough poems!
Is there a site where I could just copy/paste a poem in and it would let them move the words around? There's a similar site available, but you have to enter each word in one by one.

Bomb dropped on me this morning that I will not be allowed to distribute novels for teaching my remote students this spring. We've done some of Jason Reynolds and Kwame Alexander's books in literary circles in the past, but now I need to replace that with some works that are accessible to my students online.
