Any one else not seeing the IHC advantaged vs big law? I'm securities counsel at a pubco and I feel like I work just as much for less. Team sucks, company sucks, still stressed because people refuse to listen to my advice and things get messed up. Thinking of exploring back to a firm but we moved to a city without big law and I'm not really willing to go back to 2000 hrs just to do it at half when I was doing it before. I'd even explore not practicing any more...thoughts/advice?

Hmm I’d find a role where you work way less

like

Gladly...been applying for like 8+ months and have gotten no where.

like

Agree, time to find a new role. I’m sure you can leverage your experience for something less intense if that’s what you want.

like

Are you using LinkedIn and GoInHouse.com? Could also go to major companies and subscribe to their hiring email blasts. Also look at your network.

Where have you been applying? alot of pubcos see Legal as a roadblock and short of enabling the stakeholders and letting them do what they want, its hard to avoid

like

Other pubcos. Trying to get my foot in the door at a larger company with hopefully a little bigger team so I can just have some stability. My company is just too volatile and I'm pretty over it.

Big company big team is the answer. I am securities counsel and job is low hours and low stress.

Where do you find this role?

Hardly we can see Foreign Editorial things marked with Packages.

I recently joined Visteon with a good package but I am really unhappy with the quality of work given to me. My peers are mostly clueless freshers from 3rd class colleges. I am starting to feel depressed and horrible. Upon communicating the same to my manager she says you should do what you are told to do, now she degrades me in team meetings.I am still on probation and planning to quit and run.But I am unsure if this will have bad consequences on my career. Can someone guide me here?

Have an interesting scenario. Holiday party season is approaching. At one of our parties (during working hours) there is an optional “talent show.” Employees can win door prizes. We have an entry that is a religious song - like one you would sing in church. I assume we need to let this employee perform this - or we are setting ourselves up for trouble. Likewise, if we permit this song, I assume we cannot compel attendance to the talent show. The talent show is part of a lunch thing.

Any Amazon counsel or other FAANG attorneys willing to share how their comp review has worked? I’m really happy with my offer(lower base, really high signing bonus and decent RSUs) and was told their would be yearly comp reviews but wondering how that plays out the first few years...

Very specific to retail and/or hospitality in-house roles: has anyone found a good solution for predictive scheduling? Our retail division has one set of software for scheduling and one for payroll, and neither of them can handle predictive scheduling compliance issues unless they’re used for both the scheduling and payroll functions. I’m coming up empty on ideas for them to bridge the gap, but I’m also new to my compliance counsel role, so I would be overjoyed if anyone has suggestions.

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”

How long is too long to try to push back a start date? Getting a formal offer early next week but trying to keep that big law bonus if possible. Firm pays out bonuses Dec 30 & I have a vacation scheduled Dec 19-23 (and was planning on working remotely the week after too). Ideally want to get EOY bonus or negotiate for a signing bonus but is it too much to push for signing bonus and those weeks off? I'm open to working remotely those two weeks but know that may not be the best when I start.

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?
