Any tips for getting your brain to boot up in the a.m? Feel like mine is very slow and want to be able to just sit down and knock things out early morning before the day gets hectic

I think an important thing that’s often overlooked is water. Keep a glass or bottled water near your bed. First thing you do in the morning is drink a good amount of water. Half a bottle or half a glass. Rehydrate yourself your brain will thank you for it.

I try to get up an hour before everyone else because my brain needs that hour to wake up. I drink my coffee and honestly just sit in the quiet. It really makes a big difference as far as my brain waking up before everyone else in the household is up.

I workout first thing every AM. Does the trick even when I am really dragging.

If you are a creative person or have creative projects then that’s the best time to be creative for that exact reason — your brain hasn’t really woken up and neither has the editor inside it. Use that time to at least journal but take advantage of that time to be creative.

what helps me the most would be no phone time unless absolutely necessary, sometimes being alone with your thoughts gets your cogs turning!! or honestly being the annoying person who goes for a run at 5am

What does it mean if there’s a NEP at the firm who’s been there for a long time (20+ years), but never got promoted to EP? Never held leadership roles too. Does it usually mean EPs does not like the NEP enough to get promoted?

It’s looking like my job is gonna start asking us to return to the office. We have an open office plan and before we wfh FT I would save all my work for my telework days bc I can’t get shit done in the office. I’m having major anxiety about them making this decision. I know I’m not alone that people don’t want to return to the office. My ADHD and the open office just makes working from the office a nightmare and I’m feeling really nervous and kind of resentful.

What are some habits that inhibit you from being successful at your job?

I have tried absolutely everything I can think of to limit distractions during the work day and none of it has worked. Working from home has only made it 100 times worse because now I know there are other more interesting things to be distracted by all around me. What do you do to hold focus during working hours? What will get me to be able to work for longer than 35 minutes without getting distracted?

Been thinking about the other post about ADHD jobs. Any other job hoppers here or people with non linear careers? Or maybe you got a specific degree and are now doing something completely different? This has been a decade-long struggle for me.

Googling ADHD today (I’m having a distracted day) and super frustrated because I’m realizing that I was likely misdiagnosed as depressed for years. I was taking SSRIs and dealing with awful side effects while I struggled for so long. I finally got an official diagnosis about 10 years ago but was never taught the symptoms or how to manage them. Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Anyone here struggle with drinking enough water every day? Growing up, I drank a lot of soda and fruit juices but since 2020, I’ve been trying to be one of those people who always has a water bottle. They say you drink some when you first wake up but I never have a taste for it and then never remember to start drinking until about noon.

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.
