Any tips on keeping the spark going after having kids? My SO and I have been fighting a lot more due to stress from jobs and kids. By the end of the day it’s mostly just Netflix and bed...

Date nights and weekends away. We live in the burbs and even a 1 or 2 night stay downtown or at a B&B helps refresh us and keep the relationship strong. Try not going too long without a date night as well. Surprisingly how far a few glasses of wine and dinner outside the home can go.

Definitely date nights - goal every 4wks, max at 6 wks.

What do you do for date nights?

(From a dad with 3 kids) We'll do dinner and really any low key activity, including just window shopping. Just anything relaxing. But make sure you do the little things...hold hands, open car doors, talk about your dreams.
Dinner doesn't always have to be really nice either. Sometimes well go to our favorite hole in the wall spot where we love the food but wouldn't necessarily take the kids.

On Sunday nights we play a board or card game together. It helps us have conversations about our plans and schedule for the week and it lets us just have time to talk about anything.

Scrabble, Monopoly Deal (it's a quick card game), quiddler, 5 crowns, exploding kittens (for a group). That's just some of our favorites.

When did you know your firm wasn't right for you? I'm not sure if it's just the stress of being a new attorney with a family or if my job isn't the right fit. I work in civil litigation and am consistently below my billables. I can't stay late because my kids need me and I can't work on the weekends because I have to maintain my house and take care of my kids. I'm being constantly told to work harder, stay later, etc but it's not practical. Or am I not approaching this with the right mindset?

How does everyone bill for family law matters? Do you always bill hourly or is there some flat fee, monthly or quarterly fee structure that could work, even in contested matters? I have cases that the clients end up spending $20-$40,000 on a contested divorce and this is really out of their budget. I feel that if my firm could charge a flat fee of $10-$15,000, it would still be beneficial from a client predictability and volume standpoint and would generate more referrals.

My partner of 5 years ended our relationship last night. I’m shattered and feel absolutely sick, and I know the healing isn’t going to be easy. We were on the verge of an engagement and I was ready to spend the rest of my life with him.

I don’t know how to approach work during this time. I think I can get by, but I’m definitely not 100%. Should I talk to my boss about it? My team is close-knit and comfortable around each other, but I don’t know if it’s “appropriate.” What would you do?

Hi guys

This question may not be related. However I wanted to know from personal and family point of view how it is like to relocate from India and live abroad .
Let's say Family consists of husband , wife and a kid . I understand we will get good facilities, education, cleanliness , good air etc , however I wanted to check whether people gel up easily in the new environment? Don't they feel loneliness/ difficult to adjust? Do they look for similar asian nationalities to kill boredom?

Has anyone else talked to a doctor about stress while trying to conceive? I’ve been having a really hard time wanting a baby for the way my husband and I have been arguing or talking to each other. I think we should go to counseling. I know I love him and I know he loves me- there’s just so much animosity so much anxiety around discussions. Do you think our anxiety or tension is because we have not been able to conceive?

Worried about them as he is the only child. His parents have the money to buy a condo if it helps with their long term stay situation.

First year associate and I may barely hit 1500 this year. Requirement is 2000, though i know first and some second years at my firm don’t hit it.

I am a in a small specialist group who has 2 partners, and they both give me work. One of them said to not worry about my hours (though they do not know how low of a number i’m projected for). Haven’t asked the other.

Should I be concerned?
