FWIW which I expect is nothing, I hated Cancun. Totally fake.
Why not just stay home? You'll get the same experience without the travel hassle.
God no. But my flight home was leaving from there so I thought ... how bad could it be?
It turns out, "Quite bad"
JW is better
Exactly and the JW had a recent refurb. Honestly if you have Hyatt points go to the Andaz Mayakoba instead.
JW Cabo is the greatest - would go to Cabo over Cancun every time
Stayed there. Nice. Room itself not dated.
Tried hotel-hopping by staying at the JW. Happened to be in the old room which smells. Hated it. I heard there are renovated at least some of the rooms. Haven’t tried.
The breakfast buffet at the JW was very nice and free for elite members.
For the ritz, recommend to rent the cabana. Not the cheapest but totally worth it in my opinion.
Stayed at the Ritz once - it was nice. I generally prefer JW over the Ritz (but havent been to the one in Cancun)
Pro
Stayed there. The TPG review sums it up well, it’s a beautiful hotel with incredible rooms and service, but not the design you’d expect for a tropical getaway.
I still would stay there over the JW if you can get club level. I called and got club level for an extra $85 per night (total for two people) and is definitely worth it. Service was incredible, pool is great, and cabanas are a great price
Pro
Big thing is free alcohol. Had ~6 different spreads of heavy hors d’oeuvres throughout the day. Still ate at their restaurants a couple times but alcohol alons is worth it.
JW has their lounge too, but even Platinum doesn’t get you free access to it.
Honestly the Westin is really great value for money or points. Been going there when it was still at SPG and now it costs more in points but still like it. It’s a smaller property and in March I stayed there and at the JW and liked the Westin better. They had great happy hour for platinum members but it’s probably limited now
It’s a bit dated, but very comfortable. Highly recommend Fantino for dinner as well as Casitas. Cabanas are a good investment, pools were lovely, service was top notch.
JW Marriott is fantastic! Really loved my stay there with ocean front views 👌
