Anyone else feel guilty when taking time off? I work for a smallish firm. 10 days vacation, 100% in person. (I know.) this year I’ve taken 3 days off non-consecutively. I worked on Juneteenth (technically an office holiday) and worked on 1 of my vacation days. I’m taking the rest of this week off (3 vacation days) and a similar long weekend in august (3 days). I am the first to rant about this policy but when it comes time to take days off I feel guilty.

I am exactly the same. In the last 5 years I have taken 13 days total, non-consecutive. I feel AWFUL not being in the office and that I’m putting my work on everyone else. It’s an awful mindset I need to break out of.

This is crazy. Take your vacations!! Take your sick time. The work will always be there

I take time off and I don’t feel guilty. In fact, it is the opposite. When I take time off, I feel GREAT! Last year, I took three weeks off to go Barcelona and a Mediterranean cruise. The year before that, I took a two week vacation to the Caribbean and then another week off to spend time with family during the holidays. I’ve only got this one life to live, and I’m going to live it.

That’s awesome. I think when the firm policy is more generous than 10 days, it might lend itself to a culture where more people take time off like that? I know there are exceptions where the “unlimited pto” thing is bogus. But with 10 days of vacation only, it is so rare that anyone in my firm takes a week off (because that’s half their yearly vacation!) that taking more than 1 at a time is a lot

Thoughts on if the GTS in a 7 speed is more engaging than the S enough to justify the compromise in wheel selection?

I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. It may seem obvious, but in my experience partners value trial experience over anything else, so get it however you can. For example, my firm will favor a former prosecutor who has seen the courtroom a lot but has no civil litigation experience (not even a depo) over a seasoned associate who has only second chaired cases with a partner but hasn’t tried a case. Even trying a case and losing gives you credibility at my firm because you still did it.
