Some people benefit from preparing a script and rehearsing it well and then delivering it. That approach never worked for me coz I get stuck thinking what was on the script, i deviated from the script and also in most cases we dont have enough time to work on script and rehearse it
What you may try is writing 3 key mesages that you want to higlight on each slide. Write down those key messages on slides notes.
Write key words to remind you what to talk about ( eg benefits of XYZ: cost saving, efficiency…) rather than well framed senteces. That ways when you speak about the benefits you would be talking naturally. If you have time you can practice delivery using the key points in notes.
Also keep in mind to talk about the
Objective of slide- e.g the market trends reveals potential opportunity in …
If you have a framework talk about structure of framework x axis, y axis,,
Always end with key message and think of how to segway to next slide.
Know every detail about the slide, but talk only key messages. You can share the details when asked.
Force yourself not to say more that 3 points on each slide. It will help you to keep presentation on time, highlight important points and not loose audience by sharing too many details.
How do you prepare? Do you come up with a script (not just an outline), practice, and try to stick to it during the presentation? If you're doing all that and still struggling, it might be nerves.
If that's the case, I would practice with two or three of your peers and do a dry run.
OP - why did he advise that? Was it because it sounded too robotic? I write a script but when I present it, I try to make it sound natural and not like I'm reading off of something
Wow OP this is me

Try improv- it sounds like you get nervous. A good improv class will teach you to be more relaxed, more okay with not being perfect, and more confident about not yourself.
A tip I’ve learned is when practicing, don’t run through the presentation from top to bottom. Rather, do each section 3 times. The first time, you’ll forget a lot. The second time, you’ll remember some of what you forgot. The third time, you should have everything you missed from the first two rounds.
On the actual delivery, it’s ok to improv a little like C2 said. That might be cracking jokes at something you misspoke about or have a quick side personal bit about what the content reminded you of. Find one person to look at (a “friendly”) to crack your joke to. This is like your professional way of taking a shot to calm your nerves.
Good luck!
