Find a tour package company that will get you to front of the line at Vatican museum, coliseum etc. it might feel very “packaged” but very convenient and saves a lot of time figuring things out and waiting in line for tickets etc

Don’t go in late august. Everyone is on holiday and most of the good restaurants are closed. I found this out the hard way

Avoid tourist packages, but if you know a good travel agent, use them.
We loved staying in trastavere. Further from the tourist areas but great restaurants and nighttime vibes
