In general, I wouldn’t. You’re no longer part of the tribe. Time to go. But I have seen people come back on as freelancers or consultants. Sometimes for more pay, even
I've seen people return to a different agency owned by the same holding company and succeed. I've seen people leave of their own accord and come back, and succeed. I've never seen someone get laid off and return and succeed, but all the people I know who have done that all happened to be super emotionally checked out and weren't interested in pursuing success, so I don't know if their lack of success was due to external or internal reasons.
absolutely agree - I’ve seen many people boomerang on their accord at multiple agencies i’ve been at.
I had a coworker at my last agency do it. She came back at a lower title. (VP back to Director) There was always a dark cloud over her head. She came back because there was an opening again and she hasn’t found work and thus had to take the demotion.
there was a perception she was at risk any time there were layoffs.
she also tried to act like a VP and that didn’t help her cause.
I would never. Bad mojo
I’m interested in knowing why this is so bad. I see layoffs as part of business and not necessarily personal. If you had to leave due to an account being dropped or such, why is it so bad to come back on something new? I’m new at this, so any insight is appreciated.
Depends on why you were laid off.
I did it when I was in a different industry that was dying. Got laid off at one brand in the company, got brought back for a different brand in the company.... then got laid off a year later. Took the hint and changed industries.
