It’s usually not that complicated. You just reach out to a partner you worked closely with and the practice group leader and let them know you’d be open to coming back. If you left on good terms and the group has the need, it tends to be pretty straightforward from there and HR handles the mechanics. Also the timing hardly matters.
I left on really good terms and was told by the managing partner of my practice group that I could come back if I wanted to. I had specifically left to relocate and because I started at my previous firm as a summer and was one of younger attorneys in my office so I wanted a fresh start/establish myself as an attorney. (Maybe that was naive?)
The managing partner of my practice group at the local office where I moved connected with me on LinkedIn right after I left. I am hoping that was them indicating that the door is open if I wanted to return.
I just don’t if I should stay where I am currently to avoid a weird blimp on my resume.
