Made the move from Europe to the US with a 5-month old. Grandparents were sad, but come on, you only live once
Wife and I were planning to move from East coast to West coast. Nearly pulled the trigger but cancelled for this exact reason. Couldn't move so far away as the first grandchild was on his way.
In retrospect, I'm glad we didn't because we of course want the grandparents to have an active role in the baby's life, but, selfishly, it has also been helpful having them around to help out around the house amidst all the baby craziness.
Yes, and in the end we cancelled the move. My mother-in-law won’t fly, so moving just a two hour flight away would have meant not seeing them - and the kids not seeing their grandparents - unless we used our vacations to visit home. So we’re still in the same country, and settled for moving to a bigger house
Yes but we are going to make the move. The kids having both parents home for dinner most nights matters more than grandma and grandpa. I hope my parents will forgive us 😱
I’m concerned about move more so because parents are old and I hate to leave in that circumstance. But my kids are old enough to know their grand dad and there are other grand kids in the area. They’ll have to pick up the slack. Got to live life, and I think that’s what parents would want for us anyway. Worst case, will make a commit to jump on flight and fly back for visits
EY2 - Good point
Seeing my dad interact with my son has been a game changer. They love hanging out all day. New goal is to be a grand dad
Totally! It’s priceless to have the kids be close to their grandparents
