Anyone ever think about just quitting on the spot (or has anyone)?

Daily 😭 It’s a struggle out here

I’ve heard stories. The best was an A sending a 2 am e-mail to the partners on his project that he’d rather be a barista than spend another day working for them on their project. Interestingly, he did not quit, nor did he get fired. Also, a couple of old chestnuts where an A told a client to F*** off. Another barricaded themselves in their hotel room and refused to come out until HR came to retrieve them. Those didn’t end as positively.

I have claimed surgery so that people will stop bothering me for a couple of weeks

The shits real - even when you go on pto the emails don’t stop especially from idiot partners who freaking sit and yap all day instead of paying attention to what’s going on

Never an option for people like me on an H1b. We have to put up with it

Many times have thought about that but heres the thing, quitting anything has to come with a solid reasoning, it can’t be just an emotional out burst. Facts and a clear thought process should lead to action, if not theres no guarantee that your mind wont trick you again to assume something else isn’t right for you.

I have been put on only tough projects and I hear you. Consulting isn’t for everyone and specially when you don’t get paid enough to handle shit that gets thrown at you. Good luck. Hoping you get what you like soon.

My dream is to just walk out and say duck you

Oh, so it’s not any better at that level. Making my decision... a lot easier

Thought about it. Once I walked out on a meeting with my Partner and took a flight back home that same evening. That didn’t go so hot. But I’m was fed up w bullshit. Don’t regret it. We all belong somewhere and I’m eager to find my tribe.

I have and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I loved my job and most of my co-workers, but my boss was horrible. One day she’s your best friend, the next she won’t even look at you, and you have no idea what you’ve done to piss her off. I got in her bad side and it was just hell. I came home crying every day. Couldn’t take it anymore so I talked to HR, that afternoon she was horrible to me (didn’t know I had talked to HR) and I decided that this job just wasn’t worth my mental health and happiness. Quit the next day and I have never felt so free. Only took a few months to find a new job, so everything worked out!

Best part is they interviewed everyone on the team about her and a lot of not nice stuff came out, so they took away most of her direct reports

Yes have thought about it a few times. Once when I was very jr. and my sr. Manager was pretty abusive and I threatened to leave the project (she panicked). And recently (now as a Sr practitioner) and i learned that a subordinate with an agenda was making up rumors about me! I felt like resigning on the spot! Who has time for that!?!

I see this as a typical ebb and flow of working life. There are tough cycles and we sometimes just have to weather the storm. It always works out.

Dude, yes. I woke up to the fact that certain operating groups were more ethical than others. I was in a crap platform and it was never going to improve. So I woke up at 3 and fired off an email. Ended up going round the world. Also ended up finishing the project as an independent contractor. It all worked out but I also have other income streams besides consulting. Deep breath. From what I have seen from other fishes, don’t quit, redirect your priorities so you don’t care as much. Quitting means you dont have unemployment. I also have this problem with self esteem, I need enough of it at the end of the day that I can close my eyes. I was not going to be a cog in a jacked up wheel. Take care of you!!

I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

I’ve recently started work at a very young tech startup. Coming from a big law background, this was a huge change of pace/environment. I’m having a lot of trouble getting used to how unstructured the startup is. It feels like hire ups give a set of instructions then talk as if they don’t remember, or then decided rules A, B, C and D applies without being clear this was the case. Is this just the general startup environment? If you experienced this before, how did you deal with It?
