I’m at a big four and was previously in tech. Honestly it really depends on your role and team. But I’ve found it’s much more laid back. There’s so much red tape, everything takes so long to pass through, you have a lot of down time. It can be frustrating but also nice that you have down time. I clock out promptly at 5:30 each day and have never worked a holiday. I’m fully remote and got a massive pay increase compared to my tech job. I’m in the advisory sector, so I know busyness is much worse when you’re in tax or audit. But for me, I really like it. I can still bring up my ideas and have good coworkers, but there’s not as much pressure and responsibility. I can see myself switching back into tech later but that would be because I want to do something different, not because I dislike this side of the corporate world. It’s not for everyone but my team is great and I’m happy I made the switch. I’m sure there’s plenty of people who have negative experiences though
I personally don’t travel as I’m not on a service line that does it. But I do know people that do, and they’re on trips almost every week. I didn’t want to travel so I stuck with this role and it being fully remote. Personal preference though
I was a Big4 Sr Consultant once upon a time. Advisory. Very chill. Only crunch time is nearly project deliverables but coasting it from beginning to middle to near the end. Not everyone had my experience though.
Your experience will depend a lot on the part of the firms you join and the work you do. Having spent time in 3 of the 4, I found Deloitte the best in consulting and advisory business.
