I work closely with our GCs. Their lives are crazy stressful and busy. Burnout is high but they all seem to like the work. It depends on how conservative your firm is on risk also. The behind the scenes at some law firms can be truly nuts. Lawyers hate to follow the rules. And hate to be told what to do because “I’m an owner!”
I’d personally hate it. You’re effectively always saying no to people that think they know more than you about the law. You also run the risk of being seen as part of firm operations (vs a billable attorney), which typically is treated poorly at most big firms.
Why deal with all that when you cane get much better lifestyle with equally engaging legal work in-house at a company.
