Take a time machine back to June 2023 and search for award flights.
No tips but man, ANA Room Business Class is awesome!
You can book economy and hope for last minute award availability

Same month flexibility. Or fly elsewhere and continue on to Japan
Pro
1. Book biz ticket outright
2. Book economy/prem econ and apply upgrades
3. Figure out how many points you have for each program and find biz award availability accordingly: NH has the best redemption rates for J but high taxes/fees; VS is great for F
4. Some programs (like UA/NH) allow booking saver economy and waitlisting for/changing to biz when it becomes available for free
Japan routes are semi-easy as there are infinite capacity across all airlines
