I transferred firms to EY almost a year ago. I’m currently a SA1. I recently got my H1-B extension. Is it reasonable to assume that EY will start my GC application once I’ve been with the firm for a year? Or do I need to be at a higher rank or have less time left on my H1-B for them to get the process started?

WSGR doesn't treat staff well. Very hierarchical.
Source: I was a paralegal in Palo Alto.
Is this like a staff atty position? Because if so, you will learn a lot but not be treated super-well.
They would have to be straightforward with you. There is absolutely no benefit to the firm to be cagey. You could always call the internal recruiter and ask some probing questions.

It's clear--you will be an atty yourself but "working under the supervision of attorneys."
A lot of venture work is commoditized and this is a staff atty position.
Venture counsel is just a fancy name for staff attorney. I used to be a paralegal in the Palo Alto office and as I heard from a few of them, you are expected to perform relatively the same work as regular associates for less pay and same billable expectation. A few managed to petition to become regular associates after some time but that’s not the usual path. All in all I think WSGR is great training ground for associates but the firm can be a sweatshop. Maybe can try reaching out to other venture counsel on LinkedIn if they’d be willing to share their experience?
This is great info, thank you!

You should ask Wilson’s recruiter to connect you with any attorneys at the firm who were previously in a venture counsel position and worked their way up to an associate role. I’ve seen others do this and it could be a good reason to take the job if it’s a step up from where you are. Feel free to message me on LinkedIn if you’re unable to get the information from Connie at WSGR or someone else in recruiting and I’d be happy to research it for you.
