Anyone here have a checklist that new international students should look out for so they don’t miss key things when they come to Canada? One of my friends is coming to McGill and wanted to make sure he doesn’t miss stuff.

File a tax return even if he has no income. This way he can claim tuition against future income.

The biggest thing is money, a lot of immigrants and international students don't understand how expensive Canada actually is and end up not having enough financial resources when they get here. The second thing is finding a decent place to live especially given the number of bad landlords who got into the rental market in the last few years.

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.

New to Toronto, moved to the west end of town/ just past - in Etobicoke. I celebrate my 40th a few days after NYE/NYD - would love some recommendations on moderately priced but nice ambiance restaurants for myself + husband, and my extended family. Everyone is scattered throughout (Hamilton, Barrie, Lyle, Newmarket, North York). Don’t want anything too fancy but don’t really know where or what is good and not downtown.

Any recommendations? (Open to GTA of course).
