Left kpmg - here’s why:
1. Kpmg has had a tough time retaining talent. People who are home grown are worst paid. Low to no bonuses, low to no raises. I was there 10 years and top performer every year. Raises each year were 1-3%. Bonuses were 0-5%. My practice did very well but each year there was an excuse or another.
2. Decreased vacation days. They took away 10 days and made 5 days as a firm wide shut down, which you’re not allowed to take because of client reasons.
3. Tough to move up, it’s top heavy - there are lots of Managers Directors and MD’s who have been waiting to get promoted for years.
4. Report any and all investments within 3 days otherwise you get fined. Fines are up to 50% of your salary. I personally paid $20K in fines to KPMG for self reporting (wasn’t hiding anything) my wife’s investments 3 months after getting married. Even though we sold them as soon as we went through and combined our finances
5. WLB will be the same in every big consulting firm, expect to work weekends on short notice. So no difference there
6. There’s no diversity especially in upper management
7. No concept of “I want to invest in YOU and YOUR career”. I asked a few folks over my tenure at kpmg to be my mentor, they could care less. 99% of the time, would cancel last minute or wouldn’t show up at all without telling me.
8. Again, depending on where you’re going, there are many practices that do the exact same work and chase the same clients and fight it out on who gets what credit and % of sales. There’s no concept of ONE firm and let’s work together. Eg, if you’re going to the tech consulting side - Enterprise Solutions does the same work as Finance Transformation. They’re both groups of functional folks who build PowerPoints and have off shore resources do the actual work.
9. There are plenty of more benefits that Accenture offers but KPMG doesn’t
M1, just watch out if you are on the bench for more than 3 weeks at ACN. To them you are only as good as the current year. I never thought that I would as I had utlization north of 100% for 3 straight years, but then the music stopped and the conv with managing director was, you take this project regardless of your quals and match or you are out. Literally 60 sec, one -way conversation as he did not take questions. I took the project but started planning for my exit.
At ACN you are an expendable #, can't say the same at KPMG

I moved here from Accenture more than 4yrs back. I think I made the right choice
I was at KPMG from Dell. It was a good decision I was there for 9 years would have stayed but they removed my field of work … going a different direction with their consultant practice only reason I left I would have stayed great culture and people
I didn’t move myself but know a partner who did and came over as partner and said this was the best decision and should have left earlier … for bigger opportunities and amazing culture
Let’s be clear here - talking about moving from one firm with multiple service lines and thousands of employees to another similar firm in general terms is absurd. Some will have good experiences others won’t but hopefully you’re happier at your new firm since you left the old firm for a reason. That said, go team blue!

made the move from ACN to KPMG some time back, couldn't stand or trust leadership after Pierre's departure. Glad to be making more money than most senior partners there and I am sure that's the case at every level. We do have our problems but we focus on them much more quickly than at ACN. It's your personal decision and you should trust your instincts.

The senior people I’ve worked with at KPMG are without a doubt the most unprofessional, immature people I’ve ever experienced. Also don’t know how to separate strategy from process and the work shows it
Absolute best decision I made. Went from Accenture Interactive to KPMG marketing advisory and it’s significantly better. Love it here.
What was your role at AI? Trying to decide if I take an offer. I’d be coming from an ad agency, so not apples to apples but still interested in what you were unhappy about in your previous role. So hard to find info!
Moved Accenture to KPMG a few years ago.
1) Partners focus on the long term, not short term shareholders.
2) Actual investment in training, not idiotic learning paths made by unstaffed unskilled workers.
3) Leadership actually knows my name.
I second point 3 a hundred times over
Recently moved from Accenture to KPMG (management). I am doing similar work, but learning new things and still being challenged. I think there is a better culture and work/like balance overall. I think there are more growth opportunities in my region and financial comp has been better
Point 4 is shocking
And not true…
I made the switch a couple years ago and personally it’s been great for me. I work in digital and while there’s definitely a bit of a brand hit, I am doing MORE interesting work than I was at Accenture interactive, am surrounded by a better culture, and have a ton more opportunities that I never would have had at my level at Accenture.
