YES! Left public a month and a half ago and will never look back.
Do you mind sharing what do you do now?
Yes, been in industry for almost 1.5 years. Been the best decision I’ve made, work doesn’t stress me out at all and I have so much more bandwidth for other areas in my life
For those who are in industry now, do you mind sharing what your new position is? I’m ready to start looking to move from public to industry but don’t know what positions may be interesting to me and what will provide a good work/life balance
Controller for a small company
Yes, I left big four about 2 years ago and went into industry as a head of internal audit. I do not have the long hours, working weekends & holidays, or having to bring my laptop on vacation. My family loves that I'm home by 6pm every day, and have weekends.
However, I do miss the resources Big4 provides, the holidays (we only get 6), the vacation accrual (my company policy is to cap out at 80 hours per year!!), and the annual performance review with bonus potential and salary adjustments (my company does not have this so when I signed on, that was my salary until I ask for more). Its also important to note that turnover is very low, so I'm stuck working with the same people forever. I also miss having everyone know my company name, where now people have rarely heard of my smallish company.
Left a few months ago, should have left sooner but was waiting for the right opportunity. Best decision ever.
Honest question, what is it like to have a job that isn’t stressful and doesn’t take so much of your time? I can’t even imagine what it would feel like to have work feel like a small, balanced part of my life and I LIKE my job lol
I liked my job too before leaving public, that was the hardest part of the decision. But my family and my young daughter didn’t like me I was bringing home after a long stressful day.
Took me a bit to find a job I thought was interesting but then pulled the trigger. I don’t have as much flexibility or the days off like half of December, but I’m home by 5:15 everyday. I can make dinner and eat with my family and not get back on the computer at night. I don’t work weekends. I’m genuinely happier.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the job or clients but being with my family and being happy, I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
YESSSSS
YES! Over 4 years ago. I would work at Walmart before going back to public. Do not miss any of it.
Yes. Manager.
