I have and have been able to get the companion pass often. You do have to spend a lot of money to get it but if you have large frequent expenses (fuel for trucking businesss for example) then its easy to get. I like the ability to have a 2for1 discount on travel for my husband and me. The only downside is the routes and the time to get places but thats just southwest in general. I would still recommend it especially if you live in a city that's a SW hub. No multiple layovers. Something that should take 4 hours can quickly run you 9 hours inbtravel time with SW. to my knowledge they are the only airline that has this perk. If im wrong, please let me know!
Understood! I thought you were referring to something about 4 vs 9 hrs of travel being the perk that only southwest offers but now it makes sense to me, thank you!
I scored a SW buddy pass once by signing up for two SW credit cards during the promotional 50K points period (https://thepointsguy.com/guide/ultimate-guide-southwest-credit-card-eligibility/amp/). It was great, but would be best if you have a significant other since you can only change your “buddy” twice during the time you have the pass. Also try to get it early in the year since it lasts for the remainder of the year plus the following year. Separate from the pass, I love to travel on SW points bc I’ll book flights on multiple days and then cancel the morning of if I can’t make the flight (and I get all of my points back). It’s the most flexible way to fly I’ve come across.
We have had the SW companion pass using our SW credit card. It is a significant savings…Basically a BOGO when companion only pays taxes and fees (usually $5.60 each way.) I highly recommend it.
