No. Wealth advisors have to generate book of business as first years. Investment bankers can make a good bit but same unknown. Accounting is the right amount of pay to risk to shit life ratio for me.
Yes
investment banking 💯%
they work the same hours as us and rake in 100K+ out of college
I would say investment banking as well but honestly I've known a few in New York and they have the integrity and loyalty of Gordon gecko. I don't necessarily want a job where you have to stab someone in the back to get ahead. How much is self respect and integrity worth? Yeah maybe that MD flies into work on a helicopter but does he know his kids, how many marriages has he had, is he really that happy? Public isn't great, don't get me wrong, but I have seen my flexibility and options increase as I stayed.
Anyone who thinks investment banking works the same hours as public accounting is crazy.. Investment banking works accounting busy season hours and more year around. People bitch about public accounting not having work life balance. Investment banking had zero work life balance and doesn't pretend to have any as well.
Other than investment banking, I doubt I would make the same amount of money for the effort.
Got an offer for financial analyst and was really tempted because it was in the entertainment industry and something I loved but I turned it down because in the long run, public will benefit me way more.
I wish I'd done FP&A, still trying to switch
All the investment bankers I know in NYC are always on call, but a good number of them seem to go to happy hour then go back to work. Also, at least they're compensated for all their hours.
