Can anyone give me an overview of what to expect working for a family office? Would this be a good career move if I have a CPA and am looking to break into financial services?

I worked for a mid-size family office before switching to EY. Overall what we did was a fair amount of tax planning and strategies as well as preparing and filing the personal returns of our clients. We worked directly with the advisors to help them figure out what course of action would be best for the client from both an investment perspective but also from a tax perspective. It was really interesting work.

Mainly because of money. Also the firm I was at was toxic, at least for me. There was a lot of promising raises and then moving the requirements for the raise without telling you, people drank in the office during work, etc. That’s not true of all the offices though, just the one I worked at. EY ended up being a better fit for me culturally and monetarily. I do miss some of my coworkers though. They were pretty awesome.

I currently have a Master of Arts in Public Administration and am trying to break out of the realm of government and law enforcement.. that being said, I have been pondering the idea of getting certified in Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and sustainable business. Would this be worth the investment or should I leave that to people with a heavy finance background? Just want to be more marketable since my main background is in law enforcement data analysis.
