I picked up an LLB and an MBA. Never really wanted to practice, Im more focused on AI governance and more interested in helping transform companies.
Having a legal understanding does give you an edge.
Also, JDs in the US/CAN are basically trained to everything and then focus on a concentration.
LLBs are trained on the basics with a concentration. And some go on to be solicitors, some barristers, and or obtain an LLM or equivalent US education reqs. I did the basics 12 courses in common law, contracts, etc. then focused the remaining courses on corporate.
So while I’m comfortable reading contracts, working with clients to identify risks, for any advise I always call on my practice legal advisor.
Also interested in starting my own business
Stay with your strength. Two are different and both has good potential.
Having done both, I’m aware the two are different and the potential. I have many strengths fitting both. But I don’t really enjoy practicing law, culture of law firms, siloed nature of practicing, lack of people management, and I enjoy business side of things more.
