Could you take a leave of absence? That is what people would do in my group who were seniors, but they did not have their CPA or law license. I worked at Deloitte, and this was also a requirement. I believe it is a requirement at all of the Big 4.
You should take a leave of absence and study for it. You will definitely pass then.
Second this. Take time off. I had to leave B4 just to pass, in hindsight taking a longer leave could have been an easier approach.

I don’t think KPMG does. Only the degree, but could be wrong as I started with bar admission.

This is from an M&A tax positing at KPMG for a senior manager.
• Licensed CPA or J.D./ LL.M. or Enrolled Agent (Please note that any candidate hired by KPMG into this position that does not currently possess one of the aforementioned credentials/designations will be required to secure one within one year from the commencement of employment)
That seems pretty clear it’s the degree, not the license.
I worked with a manager who was a senior for 5-6 years because they couldn’t pass the CPA. Why would a JD get a pass?

Beyond what SA said, you literally cannot do anything that requires a bar admission without: 1) putting the firm at risk of civil and potentially criminal penalties; and 2) personal sanctions if actually a member of the bar, including possible disbarment.
TLDR - absolutely no legal services to be performed for clients.
Are you asking about other Big4? And if accountants have to pass their professional certification to be a manager, why shouldn’t lawyers?
