Anyone work at Gensler or used to work? I’m trying to understand their benefits, work-life balance, salary practices? I have an upcoming interview and I’m really curious to learn more and see if it’s worth moving to? Thanks!

I’ve been in the business as an architect for over 25 years. I’ve worked at several firms over the past decades of varying sizes-large national firms, medium sized local firms, small firms, large regional firms etc (6 total before joining Gensler over a year ago). I have to say that no firm I have worked for provides the training and focus on employee career growth that Gensler does. None. I firmly believe had I started a Gensler earlier in my career, I’d be a more confident PM-I feel like I’m learning skills I should have been shown years ago! Other firms do not invest in career growth like Gensler does. Do no underestimate the value of this!

Hi, I recently saw an advertisement for Design Manager role at Gensler Toronto, I was wondering if someone knows what is the pay range for this role.
Thanks

Great culture, amazing projects, not so competitive salary, loads of talent that will help grow your career and be advocates in your journey, you have to be in an office so flexibility has decreased.

like

Which office are you in? How’s the work/life balance? I’ve heard that flexibility has decreased and you have to be in 5x a week which sucks. But that’s something I can get over. I have 7 years of post college experience. I’ve worked at a giant A/E firm and currently a more mid sized firm (350~ people). So while it would be nice to have Gensler on my resume, it’s not a must. But I read reviews on Glassdoor and I get discouraged quickly. How’s the PTO? Also thanks for responding!!

Culture depends on the office you work in. NYC office is exceptionally toxic with narcissistic leadership. The work is uninspired in general but they get a TON of projects. So if you’re in NYC you will be working a lot.

Salaries are low but are bolstered by ESOP, profit sharing, and 401K. Combined with overtime if applicable, the $ does add up. Bonus and promotion structure is brilliant as it hooks people in to stay through June or December with the promise of $ or recognition.

Feel free to DM if you need more info.

Interior Designer here - a lot of Gensler depends on your leadership. They will absolutely make or break your experience. You have to be comfortable speaking up for yourself, saying when you need help, and when something isn’t working for you or else you will get pigeon holed into nonstop work and no work life balance. If you are staffed on super large / long term projects, the work life balance can be extremely tough. Gensler has some of the top clients in the world and that project work is as tough as you think it is.
Benefits are GREAT. Honestly better than most companies I’ve seen. Only downside is you can’t typically negotiate PTO, that’s standard across the board based on how many years you’ve been at the company.
Salary is low-mid range, because they try to offset it with bonuses and assuming you’ll work overtime. Most junior and mid level positions get paid hourly past 40 hours (not time a half) so you end up making more than just the base salary.
Feel free to message me if you have more questions!

Oh also - I feel like my direct leadership truly cares about me (both professionally and personally) which is really great and honestly probably the only reason I’ve stayed so long. The big picture company though, they don’t care at all. You’re just a drop in the bucket / an ant in the workforce.

Everything culturally has definitely been weird since return to office post-Covid. 4x week required in the office (most people do 3x) which is annoying since our jobs can CLEARLY be done from home for the most part. There’s a lot more micromanaging and controlling tendencies now, IMO (rather than actually doing things for employees’ benefit).

There’s a huge lack of mid level talent in my office so mid level staff are extremely overworked and would rather just stay home and get their work done 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m curious to know if anyone has experience working part-time in architecture? I have been working for large international firms in NYC for the past 10 years. So I work all day every day. My evenings and often the weekends are all absorbed by work duties. Working part-time would allow me to find a better balance, and carve out space for side gigs and eventually start my own firm. Any recommendations?
