I got one a few months ago and I mostly use it for tracking fitness, which I did not do prior to getting it. It’s honestly been life changing at least for me. Holding myself accountable for meeting my goals.
It’s nice not needing my phone to text or check emails but it’s really the fitness for me.
I’m thinking of getting an Apple Watch. I recently got a Fitbit so I could retire my huge garmin while running. Turns out the integration with MapMyRun is no longer working on Fitbit. That’s the main app I’ve used to store my run history (races, etc) . So now I have a useless Fitbit but looking at apple watch, which I’m assuming can use the MapMyRun app
One more annoying thing with the Fitbit is the display goes away, so you can’t just glance at your watch to check your pace, your have to tap it to wake it up. I hear that Apple Watch (certain models, I haven’t finished my research yet) doesn’t have this problem - you can keep display on
You can do that on a Fitbit Versa as well
I had a fitbit alta for a few years, and wanted to upgrade the fitness tracking capabilities and interface.
Benefits of Apple Watch have been: really good fitness tracking (I enter weightlifting vs a casual walk vs cardio workout etc), easy to use UI, seamlessly sync with iPhone (ie unlock your phone when you have a mask on).
Downsides: daily charging (I do this while I shower), harder to “disconnect” from technology.
Would absolutely say it has been worth it for me, but would recommend going in store to see how it feels and decide which size you want.
In addition to fitness tracking, I use it to check the weather more than I expected (a quick glance tells me the temperature before I head out the door). I use Apple Pay a few times a month and it is convenient being able to pay with my watch instead of having to get my wallet or phone out.
Any specific Apple Watch that people recommend?

I prefer the Whoop to the apple watch
