Anyone know about Vista Outdoor?
If you are thinking of starting a law practice or growing one with little or no capital, you need to get the book, “Starting & Growing a Law Practice without Breaking the Bank.
It was written based on personal experience and research. I started my practice 11 years ago in the middle of the 2008/2009 recession with about $500 and I have grown the practice significantly over the years using affordable and available resources.
I also coach solo practitioners and small firm attorneys. https://www.amazon.com/Starting-Growing-Practice-Without-Breaking/dp/1099523303

That advice is from a different era. Most retail managers now just tell you to apply online because they literally can't do anything with a paper resume - it all has to go through the system. I guess walking in could work at small local businesses, but no way a big chain will ever hire you off the street like that.
Yeah I guess small places are okay walking into!
Rising Star
Walking in used to work because managers controlled hiring. Now it mostly annoys because they don’t. Online first, then follow up in person only if invited or after you’ve already connected.
I guess it just depends on the hiring I think!
I guess it got expired, I've been working remotely for a while now, and it's been going well. Though I'm not rich, I make enough to live comfortably. If you’re interested or anyone is interested, I'm happy to share what I do and how I got started!
Yeah maybe and that’s pretty good going!! What is it you do?
What's happened in recent years is that so much of applying for a job has moved online that people may be startled if an applicant shows up in the flesh. That always used to be the standard thing, but I guess that's another tradition that has been pushed aside by the internet.
I think showing up in person is probably better than just sending an application online!
Yeah, unfortunately, it mostly takes up our time when we can’t do anything (I.e. you have to apply online). Now, I will say, I appreciate seeing someone in person to get a feel for them and their professionalism, but also sometimes it just reminds me I haven’t had time to go through applicants because I’ve been stuck on the sales floor. Basically, don’t take perceived annoyance as about you.
Yeah I guess so! Yeah managers are busy and things come up but even if it’s just a short and sweet meet it’s gotta be better than just applying online!
Pro
That’s unfortunate that they were annoyed, they should be happy that they have candidates walking directly into the store for open positions that they have. If someone shows up looking for a job coming, that means they are very interested, which sets them apart from other candidates. I think it’s useful because you set yourself apart from other applicants and you open yourself to these opportunities as opposed to waiting to hear back from filling out online.
I agree! It’s very much ashame on their behalf! Definitely when you have someone so committed!
