Not for someone with an ATK pedigree
Very limited value. It was great when I was a 23 year old on the shop floor at a huge company. But by the time you have two years with ATK, you have gained 95% of what you get with LSS certification and so much more.
If you are going to work in manufacturing industries with good lean/six sigma capabilities, as a consultant it will help build credibility with middle management. I agree you do build the capability as a consultant however I have yet to see a great consultant who can converse in that lingo of lean and make the client operations team feel confident in their capabilities.
I've been looking into it since this morning and the whole thing looks confusing and very disorganized but I thought there was some value to it. Thanks btw
Thing with 6 sigma is that there is no single standard. There are many sources offering certificates, including internal corporate certs as well as external, all with different terms etc. And, it's spread across at least:
1. Lean
2. Six Sigma
3. LSS
Some of it is really great stuff of course, however, it's a messy system.
Have you looked at PMP? Very structured and centralized program. It's focused on project (engagement) management as opposed to process optimization, but very useful in consulting.
Thanks, KPMG1. Yes, "mess" is the word that came to mind went I tried to find out what the official certification was. I'll look into PMP as I don't know much about that either
"Head First PMP" is a fantastic book to study from and enabled me to pass the first time
Will check it out. Thanks! 👍🏼
Thanks. That helps. Yes, I find the topic interesting and will like to do more work in the space. It seems it's not necessary but can help make your case to get staffed on those
