Do folks regularly move from corp dev/strategic m&a to PE? looking at the first as my exit opp, but turning away PE recruitment in the process. Wondering if I can swing back if I ultimately dislike corp dev. got LMM IB experience and two target schools on resume

Tough enough to get into PE from LMM IB. If you go corp dev, you’re not going to PE unless it’s corp dev for one of their portcos.

like

I’ve had recruiters reach out for MM PE, you mean to say if I were to interview it’d be harder to get the role compared to a BB analyst? Funny analysts at my firm take on more responsibility than slides/a few excel charts in their first yr, compared to BB

Working in CorpDev for a PE portfolio Company is a pretty good gig if you structure the comp right. I worked on a Deal where the head of corp dev was in his early thirties (had 4-5 years of MM banking experience before moving to this Company) and he got a $30m payout on the Deal. PE isn’t the end all be all if you can’t get in OP.

like

It must have been a $10B+ exit because no corp dev exec is getting 3+% of the equity.

Are you asking can someone go from IB —> Corp Dev —> PE? If that is your question, it’s going to be incredibly hard to make the move into PE., not impossible but it’s going to be much harder than making the move from banking.

Interesting, thanks!

Had been working as a BA/PM role at a financial firm for 3.5 years and decided to leave corporate to join my family’s small business with the mentality I’d take things over. It’s been a little over a year and I’ve come to the realization that it’s not for me. Im looking to transition myself back to IT/Tech, but am feeling apprehensive in getting the attention of recruiters with the industry switch. Any advice from anyone that’s been in a similar situation?

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!
