Not unheard of at all. Especially in busier districts like DDC, EDVA, SDNY, EDNY etc. I had a similar experience during my district court clerkship.
Yep! SDNY here, 50-60 hour weeks are the norm
I think it depends on your district and judge. When I was applying to positions through OSCAR, I remember at least one judge in the SDFla including in the description to expect to be working 50 hrs plus every week.
I generally work 40 hours a week but will work 50 to 60 for a few weeks leading up to the reporting period deadline.
Definitely not
I suppose it comes down to how busy your district/judge is. I clerked in the Southern District of Florida and I worked about 40hrs per week. With that said, I clerked during COVID and my judge said things were definitely slower as a result. So take that for what it’s worth.
I think it depends on the judge and how he/she distributes work. I clekred at fed. dist. I had 2 co-clerks and we generally worked from 9-5/9-6. And my judge would sometimes redistribute work depending on the docket. But one of my friends who worked for a different judge in the same court worked a lot more. But his judge only had 2 clerks and the administrative assistant didn't do much work at all. Plus my judge didn't care much for the 6 month report, so I think that helped
Yes, CD Cal
I clerked at the ninth and it was a fire drill for 8 months of the year
