Are there any slow paced jobs in accounting? I’m from Houston and the few accounting jobs I’ve held in the oil and gas industry have always just been crazy hours/constant turnover. Is this common in O&G? I’m sure other industries experience this as well. Just feels like O&G is so cut throat. Are private companies any better? Just burnt out and not sure which job/industry to make my next move.

What sort of job titles do you get in BFSI projects on Assistant Consultant C3A band?

Anyone ever considered contractor gig in Meta/Facebook or any other big players in tech? I'm full-time in a smaller company and it's pretty stable. Wondering if the move could be worthwhile. I’m in my 2nd year in audit. I want to pivot into management consulting within a big 4 or MBB. Has anyone seen someone make this lateral movement? I’m not sure how feasible that is and what steps to take. I’m also down to discuss further with whoever is comfortable in connecting.

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. We also close AP/AR very early in the month yet that doesn’t stop payments/receipts from happening so we’re constantly adjusting our accruals until the end of month. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?

I’m literally so miserable in industry. I have been at it a few years and it’s boring. My boss likes to act like every minor issue is a 10 when it’s a 3 and creates emergencies where there aren’t any.

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.
