Exit interviews and Employee Engagement surveys come to mind. If folks cite negative things about your benefits in surveys, it can be a starting point to look into improvements.
However…temper the feedback on the exit interviews. People are quite cavalier when on their way out the door and can embellish things to appear more sensational than they are.
In terms of plan-specific metrics…
Take-up rate: if a given benefit has a low enrollment rate, it might be worth exploring. Be careful though…some benefits have low enrollment due to their specialized nature (looking at you Dependent Daycare FSA…)
Plan Utilization: your carriers should be able to provide engagement data for your population. If your population is not using elements of the plan, it might be an area to explore further (like preventive care on medical. Hint: it is free to use)
