Would say Johannesburg has the highest livability and most developed economy, but after 2 years there, the economy isn’t the most vibrant. Nairobi is really exciting right now with opportunities in multiple start ups (fintech and agtech), growing banking and financial services and even telco. Beautiful city to live in, although not as predictable as Johannesburg.

My understanding is that a lot of the jobs are either UN jobs or NGO related jobs. Curious to find out myself. I’m looking for something in Ethiopia. LinkedIn was somewhat helpful in finding some companies/jobs.

Hello! I’ve been working as a photographer for 15 years both as an employee and a freelancer. I started working full time with my current company a year ago. They’ve just offered me a new position: Creative Services Manager (in house for 4 related brands). I have no official experience in this field and had never heard of it before but feel like it will essentially be a creative director. I will also maintain the photography duties for the time being. Any idea what salary I should ask for?

Does anyone know how closely organizations monitor their employees individual investment securities? I just started a new back office position at an investment bank and have to declare my wife's trading activity. My role is non client facing nor do I have interaction with the sales and trading teams. My wife doesn't have very many security stocks but is not happy about possibly having to now get pre clearance before selling off any stock does she have... can anyone else relate?

I spent the first 5 years of my career in DevOps, 4 years as a technical consultant, and then 3 actual years as a software engineer. I’m technically a level 2 software engineer on paper. I applied for a principal software engineer role at another company on a whim, not expecting to hear back. But they called me and the first round with hiring manager went surprisingly well, and I’m advancing to next round, but I feel major impostor syndrome. Have I applied to something I’m not qualified for?

I need advice… because I’m torn. Do I take a dream job at Apple BUT relocate to Silicon Valley and have a poor work life balance. OR Do I stay in my current position that pays almost as much (in a major city) and has an incredible work life balance. BUT the work isn’t that cool. *cues the clash* I stay or should I go??

When a recruiter contacts you to say “your background is of interest to me” for “a role I have been contracted to fill”, have they actually been specifically contracted by the firm, and maybe should be treated more like a hiring manager who is truly evaluating you? Or are they simply matching you to some posting they can see online and trying to set up a recruiting relationship with you? Fine either way, just want to know.

How would you guys view asking for a pay increase at 90 day review? Workload is much more than I thought it would be. Cleaning up lots of mess from previous employee and also equal split of employee’s work that’s out for a few months. They met my salary requirement at hiring without negotiating. I’ve been taking work home and I plan on working this weekend. It is exempt.

Any idea about @Zolve?
